The Taylor Police Department's Testing process is as follows:
CIVIL SERVICE TEST
The Taylor Police Department hires police recruits and police officers from one
civil service list consisting of qualified applicants (age 20-44) that pass our
test. The test is a basic skills, police aptitude test. Those who pass the
test and show proof of an honorable discharge from the military via Form DD214
(this must be attached to their employment application)
are eligible to receive 5 additional points. A score of 70% is required to
pass this test and be eligible to move on to the next portion of candidate
screening, our physical agility test. The eligibility list is in effect
until it is exhausted or expires at 1 year.

PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST
Upon passing the civil service examination, candidates proceed to the physical
agility test. This test consists of five components:
- Maximum Number of Push-ups in one
minute
- Maximum Number of Sit-ups in one
minute
- 300 Meter Run
- Obstacle Course
- Serpantine Run
Each component is scored separately and a total score is utilized to
determine pass/fail. For more information, see

INTENSIVE BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION
Applicants that pass the civil service examination and physical agility test are
placed on the civil service eligibility list and are then considered for
department vacancies. An intensive background investigation is then conducted to
insure that the applicant meets all requirements to attend a police academy (if
not already licensed), meets all legal personal character requirements for State
licensure and meets our strict local standards.

ORAL INTERVIEW BOARD
Applicants that are not disqualified by the background investigation the proceed
to an oral interview board. Members of the department of varying ranks
interview the candidate in an effort to determine the candidate's fitness for
employment. This interview may be followed with an interview with the
Chief of Police.

MEDICAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL
After a conditional offer of employment, all applicants are subject to a drug
screen and must pass medical and psychological examinations prior to employment.
